Tools

Many software tools are used in this work.

Extensible 3D (X3D) Graphics

The X3D Developers Guide describes system configuration and setup recommendations for various software projects supporting the Extensible 3D (X3D) Graphics International Standards. Critical open-source software tools include Apache NetBeans, Java, Python, and X3D-Edit.

Altova XMLSpy tool suite

The Altova XMLSpy tool suite provides excellent capabilities for strict validation and correct authoring of numerous XML-based assets, including X3D integration. Creation and confirmation of correct XML versions of X3D is fundamentally important for Web interoperability. RMC gratefully acknowledges support for a partner license.

Endorsements

The use of multiple tools in the Altova XMLSpy suite has been instrumental in the development of multiple open-source technologies used in Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) applied research, such as the Data Strategy for Autonomous Systems.  Renewed work on data representations for the opendis project for the next generation of the IEEE 1278.1 Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) Protocol holds great promise for participants in the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO). Building authoritative XML schemas that further support autogeneration of related schemas is a major new benefit for standards interoperability.

Dr. Curtis L. Blais
retired NPS Research Professor, member SISO Executive Committee

The Altova XMLSpy software has proven essential for design and development of the Extensible 3D (X3D) and Humanoid Animation (HAnim) International Standards. These open royalty-free standards are written, implemented and sustained by the non-profit Web3D Consortium, established in 1998 with a mission of Open Standards for Real-Time 3D Communication.
